José Hernandes Lopes Filho

Research interests: José is investigating the expression of Tnt1, a tobacco retrotransposon, during plant development and stress response. Using both structural and molecular approaches, he explores phenotypes of transgenic tobacco lines downregulated for Tnt1 expression and how this transposable element may regulate plant homeostasis. 

He is also interested in structural and molecular aspects of plant development, especially in regard to leaf, tendril and flower development.

Research interests: Raquel is conducting a comparative analysis between genomes of four isolates of Xanthomonas albilineans, a pathogenic bacterium that causes leaf scald in sugarcane. Using bioinformatics tools, she aims to prospect and characterize target genes, which then will be applied in association studies between the genotype and known phenotypes.
