POSTDOCS

José Hernandes Lopes Filho

Research interests: José is investigating the expression of Tnt1, a tobacco retrotransposon, during plant development and stress response. Using both structural and molecular approaches, he explores phenotypes of transgenic tobacco lines downregulated for Tnt1 expression and how this transposable element may regulate plant homeostasis.

He is also interested in structural and molecular aspects of plant development, especially in regard to leaf, tendril and flower development.

Education:

  • PhD, Botany, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2011-2015)
  • Guest researcher at PDS group, Wageningen University (WUR) (2013-2014)
  • MS, Botany, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2008-2010)
  • B.Ed, Biology, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2003-2009)
  • B.S., Biology, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2003-2008)

Andréia Prata Viera

Research interests: Andreia studies the function of the two copies of thi1 gene in sugarcane and is developing thi1 mutants lineages of two plant models - Physcomitrella patens and Brachypodium distachyon - by Homologous recombination and CRISPR/Cas technology, respectively.

 Education:

  • PhD, SEBS, Rutgers University (2015-present)
  • PhD, International Plant Cell and Molecular Biology, GaTE Lab, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2012-present)

MASTER STUDENTS

Geovani Tolfo Ragagnin

Research interests: Geovani is using RBIP-qPCR technique to explore the association between RGAs (resistance genes analogs) and transposable elements in sugarcane cultivars.

Education:

  • MS, Biotechnology Program, GaTE Lab, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2015-present)
  • B.S., Biology, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) (2011-2014)

Raquel Paulini Miranda

Research interests: Raquel is conducting a comparative analysis between genomes of four isolates of Xanthomonas albilineans, a pathogenic bacterium that causes leaf scald in sugarcane. Using bioinformatics tools, she aims to prospect and characterize target genes, which then will be applied in association studies between the genotype and known phenotypes.

Education:

  • MS, Bioinformatics Program, GaTE Lab, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2016-atual)
  • B.S., Biotechnology, Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) (2011-2015)

Vania Gabriela Sedano

Research interests: Vania studies two variants of sugarcane s6pp gene, which is associated to sucrose metabolism. Her aim is to understand the biochemical function and the genomics context of these variants, using heterologous expression, enzymatic assays and bioinformatics analyses.

Education:

  • MS, Biotechnology Program, GaTE Lab, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) (2015-present)
  • B.S., Biotechnology Engineering, Polytechnic University of Sinaloa, Mexico (2010-2014)
